There are a number of Sports clubs in the village, most of whom form part of the Dedham Sports Club. Others not affiliated with the Sports Club are also listed in this section.
Dedham Sports Club
The primary objective of the Dedham Sports Club is to provide members with an opportunity to take part in recreational and social activities and to administer the Dedham Sports Club and its premises. Over the last two years the club premises on Duchy Field have been updated, with new flooring, new lighting, updates to the kitchen and furnishings. The management of the club is in the hands of a committee drawn from the following organisations.
Dedham Parish Council | |
Dedham Village | |
Dedham Old Boys FC | |
Dedham Cricket Club | |
Dedham Carpet Bowls Club | |
Dedham Table Tennis Club |
The club premises are also used by non sporting groups such as Parent & Toddler Group and the Dedham Sports Club Quiz team. For more details on these organisations visit the Village Life page. The playing fields often feature in the annual awards of the Essex Playing Fields Association. If you wish to contact the Sports Club please the email form alongside. Dedham Carpet Bowls Club
Dedham Carpet Bowls Club was formed in 1993. We currently have around 20 members and would like to increase that number, our constitution allows for a maximum of 40 members. Bowling sessions are usually held on Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon in the Sports Pavilion. The club participates in league games during the Winter and Summer as well as taking part in and running various competitions. The 2019-20 Winter League season started on 1st September 2019, we take part in the Colchester East League, for the latest results check out the ECCBA website.
Our major competition is the Peggy Brooks Memorial competition which usually takes place in September when 20 local teams compete for the Rose Bowl Trophy. If you would like to try your hand at Carpet Bowls come along on a Tuesday evening, the practice sessions starts at 7.00pm.
Dedham Old Boys Football Club
Dedham Old Boys Football Club is one the oldest clubs in Essex. One of the first games played by Dedham was against Harwich & Parkeston Football Club (The Shrimpers) who visited Dedham in November 1877. The match was played on the Grammar School ground which is the same ground used today by Dedham Old Boys. Both the First Team and the Reserve Team play in the Essex and Suffolk Border League. For a brief history of the club, click on the DOBFC History document below.
Dedham Cricket Club
Dedham CC play their home games in a picturesque setting in the centre of the village. The 500 year old church of St Mary the Virgin, that provides the back drop, is featured in many of the paintings of John Constable. The pavilion has a large lounge providing excellent views over the ground. The two changing rooms both have their own shower facilities. Car parking is adjacent to the pavilion, however this can be limited. On most match days there is a car park just before you reach the Pavilion on the left hand side (small field) which can be used. Vehicular access to the ground is via Southfields (off Brook Street) while pedestrian access can be gained from the High Street.
Dedham Tennis Club
The tennis club is a community based club with three all-weather tennis courts. It is situated on the playing fields behind the Parish Church, just off Dedham High Street and Brook Street. We actively welcome new members across all ages & abilities, for those who are more "occasional players", we offer online court booking to both members & non-members.

Dedham Run
A great day out for all the family and supporting the local community. Although the exact origins of the Dedham Run have been lost to time –perhaps unsurprising given that the run is at least 25 years old- the purpose has always been clear: to offer a great day out for all the family, whilst raising money for the Dedham Primary School and other youth organisations central to the community of Dedham. The race is popular with both competitive and fun runners alike and you will be certain of a warm welcome from this quintessential English village in the heart of “Constable Country”.
